Proposal:

We invite applications from Expert Fellows to lead a SPRITE+ Community of Interest.

Some key TIPSS topics that have a significant number of the SPRITE+ members working within them – these are latent communities of interest. We will provide financial and operational support an Expert Fellow to convene such Communities of Interest (CoI). The SPRITE+ Delivery team will provide operational support (events, communications, budget) to the Expert Fellow and a budget will be provided for running events and for a modest buyout of the Expert Fellow's time.

Potential Communities of Interest will be identified through analysis of the SPRITE+ member database, and a cognate Expert Fellow will be approached to facilitate the CoI.

Purpose:

To facilitate an Expert Fellow led CoI, providing the Expert Fellow with the opportunity to convene and support a CoI.

Intent:

Primary:

  • Convening SPRITE+ members around a particular topic of interest as it relates to Trust, Identity, Privacy, Security and Safety (TIPSS).

Secondary:

  • Furthering research and community building around the topic

  • Promoting SPRITE+ to a larger/diverse audience

  • Increasing membership of SPRITE+

  • Contributing to TIPSS relevant body of knowledge shared on the SPRITE+ website.

Format:

The format is not proscribed. CoI leads are encouraged to think creatively about the type of community they want to host and its format.

Resources:

  • The SPRITE+ team will provide the CoI lead with support through helping plan, promote and run CoI events.

  • CoI leads will have access to a budget up to £20,000 to support the running of their community of interest. This can cover buy out time, event logistics (venue hire, speaker payments, food and drink (excluding alcohol)) and publishing costs.

Output Requirements:

Successful Community of Interest leads will be required to:

  • Provide the SPRITE+ team with information about the community of interest for the SPRITE+ webpage.

  • Provide content for any Community of Interest newsletters.

  • Prior to any events/workshops to help promote the event/workshop.

  • Write a blog post (up to 300 words) with photos (if appropriate) that summarises any event/workshops the CoI holds.

  • Provide a brief post event report to the SPRITE+ Management team outlining actual costs, attendance numbers, any lessons learnt, any collected demographics of attendees.

  • Work with the SPRITE+ team to create any promotional materials.

  • Provide attendees with information on how to join SPRITE+.

Attendees of these events do not have to be SPRITE+ members, however it is a requirement that SPRITE+ is promoted to attendees.
