Funding is available to support exchange visits between UK and UNSW TIPSS researchers, co-funded by SPRITE+ and IFCyber.
About:

Recognising their complementary strengths, SPRITE+ and IFCyber decided in 2025 to collaborate on projects of mutual interest and to tackle issues of strategic importance for Australia and the United Kingdom. By supporting seed projects that connect their respective expertise and networks, they aim to drive innovation, strengthen international research ties, and address emerging digital challenges that affect both nations.

The seed funding will support exchange visits to enable the development of research collaborations that are co-led between at least one SPRITE+ member and at least one UNSW IFCYBER member.

An existing relationship with a member of another institute is not required. Members without an existing connection will have the opportunity share their expertise with the alternate organisation to facilitate building new professional relationships.

Themes:

The seed grants aim to fund collaborations aligned to Privacy, Identity, and Trust. Funded areas include but are not limited to research on:

  • Trust, privacy, and digital identity with marginalised or hard-to-reach communities.

  • The role of law, policing, and diplomacy in safeguarding citizen privacy, data sovereignty, and for regional influence.

  • Identifying populations in society that are less likely or unable to benefit from newly emerging security-relevant technologies, and that may not have been previously identified.

  • How the multicultural contexts of the UK and Australia (including national culture, organisational culture, or subcultures) influence trust, privacy, and/ or online identities.

  • Assuring Privacy, Identity, and Trust in IoT, hardware, or cyber-physical systems.

Eligibility:
  1. Must be co-led between a minimum of one SPRITE+ member and one UNSW IFCYBER member.

  2. Co-leads must be salaried staff members at their institution (adjuncts are not eligible to be a co-lead).

  3. Investigators can be a co-lead on only ONE proposal.

SPRITE+ and IFCYBER are currently accepting expressions of interest until 9th May 2025.
